Electronics Engineer and Production Support Specialist

Working closely with product, development, test and production team members, use your electronics knowledge to help develop, enhance, produce and support Synectics’ range of specialised cameras, control devices, hardware and systems in the security and surveillance market.

• Electronics product development, from requirements analysis through to design and test of high-quality, robust designs.
• Production engineering support for electro-mechanical products within UK-based manufacturing facility.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Full lifecycle product development, from requirements analysis and architecture, through design and development and testing of high-quality, robust designs
• Robust hardware design using microcontrollers, ethernet, wireless, motor drive, sensor integration and energy-efficient products
• Design for manufacture and design for test and service
• Obsolescence management of existing products
• Product certification support; EMC, Safety, CE, UKCA etc
• Production engineering support
• Preparation of product documentation

Production Support Specialist elements

• Resolving related technical production issues
• Document management and updates for Assembly Instructions, Test Schedules, and Work Instructions (including reference to these on sub-assembly routing instructions)
• Change management for the above docs (EDM/RDC)
• Support design and creation of test jigs (wiring harness etc.)
• Involvement with NPI (New Product Introduction) and EDM (Engineering Data Management) processes
• Liaise with engineering, production, quality and purchasing on part issues and be involved in investigations/corrective actions (worm drives, metalwork, PCBs etc.)
• Support production issues with production-build, including minor BOM alterations with the potential to do more complex BOMs in the future
• Involvement with process audits and corrective actions
• Process mapping for production

Experience

Essential

• At least 5 years experience in developing hardware for embedded systems, taking designs from specification, design, prototype and into manufacture
• Standard interfacing circuits - UART, ADC's, DAC's, I2C, SPI, Differential comms (USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485 etc). Mixed digital and analogue design
• Design for EMC, ESD, LVD, CE, and Safety approvals
• SMPS (DC-DC and AC-DC) design appreciation
• Appreciation of Control Engineering as a discipline
• Schematic capture and PCB layout using CAD (‘Orcad’ preferred - training available)
• Design documentation (requirement specs, design documents, TCF, test specs, etc.)
• Engineering release and change control

Desirable

• Engineering degree (Electronics or Electrical & Electronics, Physics or Applied Physics)
• Proficient in interpreting industrial standards and designing products to comply with relevant standards
• Experience of firmware design/development for embedded C technologies or working closely with these departments
• Experience with Embedded C++
• Power-over-ethernet hardware experience
• Board bring-up, debug, test and validation
• Rapid prototype techniques/experience
• Technical leadership
