Senior DevOps Engineer

Part of the Synectics software platform is deployed as containerised services in the cloud. To support and expand the patterns and processes surrounding continuous, secure and reliable software delivery into such environments, we need an experienced DevOps Engineer who can bring relevant industry knowledge to the development group.

The role involves day-to-day monitoring and operation of containerised services in Microsoft Azure and automation of deployment processes. In addition, the role involves promoting and adopting best practices across development teams.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Deployment and operation of our security software platform based on containerised services.
• Creation of dashboards and analytics queries to manage running environments.
• Very close collaboration with development teams to help automate build, test and release processes.
• Collaboration with software architect and product management to help design the deployment of our platform components to create a secure and scalable platform, that is as easy to operate as possible.
• Support of the Global Support team to help them in their job of identifying and diagnosing software faults so that we can provide the best experience for the users of our platform

Relevant Skills, Technologies and Areas of Expertise:

• Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker.
• Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure (including Azure Key Vault, Azure DevOps, Azure SQL, IoT, Azure Functions, etc.).
• Infrastructure as Code: Bicep, ARM Templates, Multi-Region Deployments.
• Configuration Management & Automation: YAML, JSON, PowerShell, CI/CD pipelines.
• Programming & Scripting: C#, .NET Framework / .NET Core, JavaScript.
• DevOps Tools: NGINX, REDIS.
• Databases: Azure SQL.
• Storage: Azure Blob Storage.
• Messaging & Streaming: Azure Service Bus, Kafka, MQTT.
• Monitoring & Dashboards: Experience with setting up dashboards and writing analytics queries to support operational monitoring using Grafana.
• Networking & Security: Certificate Management, Azure Firewall, Service Mesh, VNET.
• Business Continuity: Disaster Recovery, Automated Backups.

Key Personal Attributes:

• Team player – must be able to work effectively with different teams within the development group to create high-quality solutions.
• Good communication skills – able to effectively communicate with different functions within the business is key. Both to be able to maximise the benefits of the data and knowledge generated by the running platform, and clearly communicate risks and issues etc to project stakeholders and customers.
• Highly analytical (to support fault diagnostics and process analysis)
• Responsible – running a large software estate on behalf of our customers requires a high degree of responsibility and integrity to ensure that the job is done properly on their behalf

Qualifications and Experience:

• 3yrs+ experience with deploying and operation of containerised software
• 3yrs+ experience with running software daily in an Azure cloud environment
• 3yrs+ experience of build and release automation
