User Experience and User Interface Designer (UI/UX)

We have a great product here at Synectics. Over 20 years, we have built a well-regarded, feature-rich platform which has evolved through updates and editions: Synergy. As we move towards our solution paradigm of ‘anything, anywhere’, we are investing in an expanded Front-end team who can drive modern web-based front-end technologies (mostly Angular based) to make our portfolio feel like a single product.

We are looking for someone to join our business to work in the front-end team to input and guide the product aesthetics, layout, user experience and to grow our product advocacy.

Principal Accountabilities

You’ll play a vital role and will be a key team member, engaging with product managers, product owners, developers, testers and senior stakeholders. No two days are the same, but typically some of the things you’ll be doing will be:

• Responsible for delivering high-quality UX design from exploration and discovery to wireframes, user testing and final UI design.
• Designing modern, functional product user interfaces for engaging user experiences.
• Analysis of functional requirements which are translated into high-value designs.
• Support scoping and development processes, and create wireframes and prototypes to aid product managers, product owners and the front-end development team.
• Use data-led personas to support first-time, infrequent users as well as experienced, advanced system users.
• Building on the understanding of how our product is used in the field, incorporate this into the refined design, flow and feedback to facilitate user tasks and expediency.
• Interacting with customers, assisting in focus groups to beta-test UI/UX designs, and championing the best user experience possible.
• Through process and good communication, ensure consistency across the product and developer’s approaches to maximise the reuse of elements, components and methodologies.
• Encouraging industry standard tools and techniques to ensure future support of the product.
• Defining the style strategy for our core products: tone-of-voice, the style guide for our developers, colour palettes and theme, etc.

As a key member of the design team, you will be expected to engage at all levels of the business from customers, senior leaders, and developers and to aid focus groups with clients, customers, and members of the public; understanding what people want will be an inherent characteristic that drives your thought-processes to achieve the best possible experience for our customers.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Technical degree or industry experience in user-focused design – graduate or graduate calibre
• 2 or more years of experience delivering AAA user experiences.
• Beneficial: a track record of community participation in your field of expertise (meet-ups, talks, podcasts, etc.).

Key Personal Attributes & Skills:

• You will have a strong knowledge of core UI / UX principles: Storyboarding, User-journey mapping and when to apply the correct technique.
• You should also be familiar with producing wireframes that drive software development work and understand the needs of a development team with respect to UI requirements documentation.
• You will have a good eye for aesthetics and style.
• Use of Adobe XD, Axure (or equivalent tooling) should be second nature.
• You will have a deep understanding of optimisation for Human-Computer interaction and use the appropriate tools, technologies and techniques to elicit UI / UX requirements and document them concisely and unambiguously.
• You will have worked within a Scrum environment and have an inclusive attitude, able to work with your peers collaboratively.
