What apprenticeship did you complete and when?

I joined Synectics as a Sales Engineer in August 2012 and gained a Level 3 and Level 4 IT Professional qualification at Distinction level.

How has your career developed? What is your role now?

I’ve worked across lots of different teams at Synectics, including technical sales, support, and product engineering. For the last five years, I’ve been part of the Product Management team, looking after our Synergy hardware range and Synergy’s video software development.

What were the main skills that you developed during your apprenticeship?

I was able to build my skills in software, IT hardware and operating systems via the apprenticeship course. I really enjoyed being able to translate those skills into tasks I could do to support the team at Synectics, such as building demo systems for use at industry exhibitions and customer trials.

"I really enjoyed my apprenticeship and the path my career has taken since then!"

Product Manager, Synectics

How do you utilise those skills in your career today?

The IT skills I built during my apprenticeship have really supported me in the role I have today. Because I was able to put those skills to use across multiple teams at Synectics as part of my apprenticeship, I have a strong understanding of the needs of each part of our global business – from sales, projects, to engineering. I always keep their perspectives in mind as part of my role today.

What is the coolest thing about your job? What has been the highlight of your career to date?

I’ve been able to visit some fantastic places, like Singapore and Indonesia, and I’ve been able to work on some very complex projects for high-profile customers. It’s very rewarding to see these complex projects through from initial planning to successful long-term usage.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about completing an apprenticeship?

It’s a fantastic option if you want to get an earlier start with your career and learn on the job, alongside the learning and support from the apprenticeship course.
